Davidoff Cool Water Sylt PWA World Cup

Day 2: A beautiful autumnal day in Sylt as the wind teases the racers

The wind teased the slalom fleet for much of day two of the Davidoff Cool Water PWA World Cup with 5-12 knots being recorded for much of the afternoon, but ultimately the wind remained too light to kick off the competition.

Although the wind wouldn’t quite play ball that didn’t stop either Ethan Westera (Starboard / GA Sails) or Andrea Rosati (RRD / NeilPryde) from venturing out on the water, but despite a few planing runs it was evident that the conditions weren’t appropriate.

Whilst the wind may have not played ball, that didn’t stop thousands of people from pouring into the event site to enjoy the beautiful autumnal sunshine, whilst rubbing shoulders with their idols and enjoying a glass or two of champagne.

The forecast for tomorrow offers slightly more promise than today — particularly in the late afternoon with 15-17 knots being predicted from the northwest by 5pm. The skippers’ meetings for tomorrow have been called as follows:

— Slalom 10am — 1st possible start 11am

— Freestyle 10:00am — 1st possible start 10:30am

— Wave 12pm — 1st possible start 12:30pm

However, if the wind fails to prevail then there will be a Vodafone Freestyle Tow-in Expression Session — the skipper’s meeting to which will be held at 10:30am, followed by a practice and trials session at 11am. The main contest will then start at 3pm with a prize purse of €2,000 up for grabs — if the main contest is not possible.
