Tenerife PWA World Cup

Day 1: The wave fleet are rigged and ready to kick start the action tomorrow

The inaugural day of the 2015 Tenerife PWA World Cup saw the wave fleets registering for the upcoming week of competition, whilst the opening three heats of the youth’s single elimination were completed before the tide became too high for the remainder of the contest to be concluded. With the conditions not improving the sailors were released at 4pm as attention turns towards tomorrow.

Youth’s

Marc Paré (99NoveNove / Simmer / Maui Ultra Fins) looked to be in good form despite the tricky conditions as he won the opening heat ahead of Marino Gil. Paré was able to land a perfect backloop, whilst also linking several snappy turns with the waves on offer.

In heat two Tim Van dam Sanchidrian (Starboard) came out on top as he and Noah Vocker (Fanatic / North / Maui Ultra Fins) both landed clean backloops. However, Van dam Sanchidrian made the better of the waves on this occasion after making some stylish frontside snaps.

The final heat of the day saw Julian Salmonn (Severne) achieve the highest wave scores of the day as the eighteen year old made the most of his local knowledge to link several excellent fluid waves together. Alexandre Grand-Guillot (Fanatic / North) qualified for the semifinals in second place.

Iballa Moreno (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) sailed yesterday but unfortunately suffered a slight knee injury. The reigning world champion will see how her knee is in the single, but it’s not the ideal start having been previously injured in Pozo too.

A few days ago the forecast didn’t look particularly promising but thankfully things have taken a turn in our favour. The forecast for tomorrow now predicts winds of 20-27 knots on local forecasts, so we are hopeful of a full day of contest being completed, whilst Wednesday also looks promising too.

With the possibility of the wind arriving early tomorrow morning the skippers’ meeting has been called for 8:30am with the first possible start at 9am. Make sure you tune into www.pwaworldtour.com to follow the amazing action as it happens via the PWA live stream and live ticker.
