Davidoff Cool Water Sylt PWA World Cup

Day 8: Taty Frans strikes late to steal victory from the claws of Steven Van Broeckhoven

Day eight from the 2015 David Cool Water Sylt PWA World Cup saw another lay day for the main competitions, but there was still plenty of action on the water with a SUP Race and the Philips night tow-in freestyle session.

Just as on the day six it was Team 2 consisting of Amanda Beenen (99NoveNove / Point-7), Sebastian Kornum (NeilPryde), Nicklas Borgen (JP / NeilPryde), Rasmus Oegelund (Patrik / Sailloft Hamburg), Steve Allen (Starboard / Severne) and Enrico Marotti (RRD / NeilPryde), who dominated, and ultimately won today’s SUP Race.

After a break of a few hours the Philips Tow-in Freestyle Night Session was held in what proved to be incredibly difficult conditions for the qualifying top 12 from day five. Steven Van Broeckhoven led leading into the final with a clean burner — earning 21.5 points — and was joined by Jose ‘Gollito Estredo (Fanatic / North / MFC) and Taty Frans (Starboard / GA Sails / Mystic).

Frans’ — who qualified for the final due to an injury to Adrien Bosson (Fanatic / North / Maui Ultra Fins) — took home the top prize with the only double move of the evening — a double funnel, which earned 22 points.

Six-time PWA World Champion — Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo (Fanatic / North / MFC) — grabbed second place with an air funnel/burner, followed by Van Broeckhoven, who had the last opportunity to impress, but tripped his rail after the opening rotation and could do nothing to prevent Frans from clinching that title.

The skippers’ meeting has been called for 10am, but the forecast does not look good for tomorrow or Sunday, so with this in mind a tow-in trials has been called for 11am with the final taking place at 3pm. As always you’ll be able to follow the action live via the PWA live stream and live ticker @ www.pwaworldtour.com.
