PWA NETHERLANDS WORLD CUP

Day 6: A slightly frustrating penultimate day as Gollito takes the tow-in title

The penultimate day of the DAM7 PWA Netherlands World Cup proved to be a somewhat frustrating affair, as a forecast which had promised a few hours a strong wind failed to prevail. Over the course of the day a few sailors were tempted out onto the water, but the teasing winds were never quite enough to allow the completion of the women’s double elimination. After a long day on hold the sailors were eventually released at 5pm, whilst the EFPT Tow-in final was held in the evening.

D-Day Tomorrow

Tomorrow is crunch time for Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / Gaastra / Mystic / Chris Benz / Maui Ultra Fins) and Arrianne Aukes (RRD / Simmer / Maui Ultra Fins), who are still patiently waiting to sail the winners’ final of the double elimination. Offringa is unbeaten since 2008, which makes victory look like somewhat a formality, however when you factor in nerves as she goes in search of a sixth PWA Freestyle world title then anything can happen - especially when you factor in the fact that Aukes has nothing to lose and everything to gain, plus to consistency to cause Offringa a few problems.

Sarah-Quita Offringa:

“I’m feeling nervous I really just want to go on the water and sail.”

Plan of Action

If the forecast comes true, then the plan for tomorrow will be to run one more single and double elimination for the women, which should see an interesting battles as the ladies compete for the final time this season. Will Offringa be able to hold her nerve? Or will Aukes or one of the other women be able to make the Aruban gem sweat it out? Find out by tuning into www.pwaworldtour.com where you’ll be able to follow the action as it happens. The skippers’ meeting tomorrow morning will be held at 08:30am with the first possible start at 9am.

EFPT Tow-In Final

At 7:30pm the final of the EFPT tow-in was held with the top ten sailors who had made it through the three qualifying rounds earlier in the week. Youp Schmit (JP / NeilPryde) qualified as the lucky fourth place loser. Max Matissek (Fanatic / North) led the final after the first round of attempts after landing a brilliant double air funnel. However, the Austrian couldn’t hold onto his lead as Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo (Fanatic / North) stomped a brilliant air funnel into burner cana brava to claim the victory, whilst Kiri Thode (Starboard / Gaastra) stole second place with a funnel into air funnel, leaving Matissek to settle for third place.

Results EFPT Tow-In Final

1st Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo (Fanatic / North)

2nd Kiri Thode (Starboard / Gaastra)
