Tenerife PWA World Cup
The 6th edition of the Tenerife PWA World Cup saw El Médano produce world class conditions for the 6th consecutive year as it reinstated itself as one of the best wave sailing spots in Europe with howling winds and excellent waves providing the perfect playground the world’s most radical sailors to showcase their skills. After an intense 5 days of competition Victor Fernandez (Fanatic / NorthSails / MFC / Shamal Sunglasses) managed to fight back in the double to maintain his perfect start to the season, while extending his lead at the top of the overall rankings. Meanwhile, Iballa Moreno (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) reduced Daida Moreno’s (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) advantage at the top with the reigning world champion securing her first event win of the year after a close run Super Final.
Women’s
Iballa Moreno claimed her first win in Tenerife since 2012 with a hard fought victory over her sister Daida Moreno, who battled back through the double by exacting revenge for a surprise defeat against Steffi Wahl (Patrik / Sailloft Hamburg) in the single to force a super final. Daida led for much of the heat, but Iballa struck late as she linked together her best two scoring waves in the final 5 minutes of the heat to defend her single elimination crown, which closes the gap between her and Daida, but it is Daida who is ahead in the title race at this stage of the season and it looks as though it will be another enthralling battle for the title between the Moreno twins.
Steffi Wahl completes the podium in Tenerife after producing a wave riding masterclass against Daida Moreno in the single to occupy 2nd place — before being narrowly defeated in the rematch. Wahl came out on top in the waves again, but couldn’t match the multiple-time world champion in the air. Wahl remains in 5th place overall after her best showing in Tenerife yet.
Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) continued her fine form at the start of the wave season as she secured 3rd place, which keeps her in 3rd overall at the moment. Offringa demonstrated a great array of jumping and powerful wave riding, which she used to end Amanda Beenen’s (99NoveNove / Point-7) come back through the double.
Beenen finishes 5th here after dispatching of Sarah Hilder (Simmer / Simmer) Alice Arutkin (Fanatic / NorthSails) and finally Lina Erpenstein (Patrik / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins), who looks an exciting young talent.
Men’s
Victor Fernandez maintained his perfect start to the season with another superb display of radical jumping and dynamic wave riding as. The Spaniard came back in the double elimination to defeat Marcilio Browne (Goya Windsurfing / MFC) twice to claim back-to-back event titles in Tenerife and extend his advantage of the top of the overall rankings as the 32 year old looks to add to his sole world title in 2010.
Marcilio Browne produced a great performance and won the single elimination before Fernandez wrestled the title away from him. However, the Brazilian will still be delighted with his weeks work and he walks away with 2nd place, which is Browne’s best result ever in Tenerife and sees him rise to 4th in the overall rankings.
Reigning world champion — Philip Köster (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) produced an amazing comeback in the double, which saw the 22 year old win five consecutive heats with a combination of trademark double forwards, pushloop forwards and some devastating wave riding as he defeated Dieter Van der Eyken (Starboard / Severne), Jaeger Stone (Starboard / Severne / Shamal Sunglasses), Robby Swift (JP / NeilPryde / Mystic / SWOX) — in one of the heats of the contest — Thomas Traversa (Tabou / GA Sails) and Alex Mussolini (RRD / RRD) — before severe cramps in his arms and legs forced an end to his comeback. Köster now sits in 2nd overall after the opening two events.
Alex Mussolini and Thomas Traversa complete the top 5, which sees Mussolini rise to 3rd in the overall rankings. While TT was able to take down Jaeger Stone in the single elimination with an amazing taka on his final wave swinging the tie on its head, which left the Aussie with an unfavourable draw in the double as he soon bumped into Köster and so has to settle for joint 7th with Dany Bruch (Starboard / Flight Sails / AL360 / Shamal Sunglasses), who lost out to Robby Swift by just 0.07 of a point. The event organiser produced an outstanding jumping display but for once couldn’t find the wave scores he required.
After a narrow victory over Bruch, Swift, then produced the best heat of his life as he racked up 34 points with a massive pushloop forward and aggressive waves resulting in his highest total on the world tour. Unfortunately for the Brit — Philip Köster — was his opponent and he produced a near perfect heat leaving Swift with 6th place in Tenerife.
Dieter Van der Eyken earned his first top 10 finish in the waves with a great comeback which saw the freestyle world champion defeat Morgan Noireaux (JP / Hot Sails Maui), Moritz Mauch (Severne / Severne / MFC) and Jules Denel (JP / NeilPryde) to finish joint 9th alongside Aleix Sanllehy (Tabou / GA Sails) — who somehow still managed to sail despite being in hospital during the event — Adam Lewis (Fanatic / NorthSails / SWOX) — who starts the season with 2 top 10 finishes and Ricardo Campello (Patrik / Point-7 / MFC) — who was making his return after injury and was still able to land one of the jumps of the contest with an incredible pushloop forward.
Youth’s
The next generation of windsurfers were also in action throughout the week and Liam Dunkerbeck (Starboard / Severne) was able to come back to claim victory in the 12 year olds division, while Marino Gil (Goya Windsurfing) claimed a narrow victory in the 12-15 year olds fleet over Valentino Pasquale (Fanatic / NorthSails / MFC). Meanwhile, Loick Lesauvage (Goya Windsurfing) was able to secure victory in the 16-18 year old fleet after edging a tough battle against Noah Vocker Roche (Fanatic / NorthSails / Maui Ultra Fins).
Siam Park Dunkerbeck Extreme Jump Challenge
On the final evening of the event the top 10 sailors from Friday’s Super Session headed for Siam Park to battle it out for the title of King of the Pool and Britain’s Adam Lewis snatched the victory from Antoine Martin (JP / NeilPryde / MFC) with his final jump of the evening with an insane double pushloop.

Where’s Next on the PWA World Tour?
After an intense few weeks of competition the tour now takes a break until the start of September at which point the men’s and women’s slalom fleets will set off a new adventure as they head for Hvinde Sand, Denmark, for a new addition to this year’s tour.
