Starboard go wide

The brand that is always on the hunt for the next greatest shape, Starboard have released their widest Formula board ever.

It’s that time of year when the ISAF issues its list of approved boards for the 2012/2013 Formula Windsurfing seasons. Once again Starboard have broken down boundaries, and their Formula 167 Wide emerges as the widest Formula racer ever in the world of course-racing. This remarkable design features a 90cm wide tail, which also includes ergonomic heel recessions for comfortable downwind runs plus multi-layered, oversized cutaways helping up- and downwind characteristics.

This innovative board is mainly designed to make the best use of light-wind conditions or for medium- to heavyweight riders. Its brother the Formula 167 also offers an alternative for when the wind is really blowing. Best suited to medium- and light weight riders, the Formula 167 features the same heel recessions as its sibling, but the oversized cutaways are slightly adapted to accommodate its different tail width however it is still a still very respectable 84cm.

Remi Vila, head of racing R&D:
“Because the ISAF only registers new Formula boards every two years, these Formula boards will be the ones to beat for the next two years. Directly influenced by our racing program and refined by some of the best Formula racers in the game, the new Starboard Formula boards have a whole range of innovations.”
