Mercedes-Benz PWA Windsurf World Cup Sylt

Mercedes-Benz new title sponsor of the Windsurf World Cup Sylt

Car brand from Stuttgart extends its involvement in lifestyle water sport

Mercedes-Benz is into the surf sports. The car brand from Stuttgart is becoming title sponsor of the Windsurf World Cup Sylt (September 30th – October 9th) as well as the SUP World Cup Scharbeutz (June 24th – June 26th) and is Premium Partner of the Pringles Kitesurf World Cup at Fehmarn (August 26th – September 4th) for the first time.

The company further extends its involvement especially at the biggest windsurf event in the world. In 2015 the brand with the star was already main partner at the Brandenburger Strand and will now provide the name of the only Super Grand Slam of the PWA World Tour.

“We are proud to be partner of this spectacular event, where windsurf professionals as well as Mercedes-Benz present a maximum of performance and attach the greatest importance to first-class equipment. Our V-Class is an ideal training partner for the athletes and the perfect vehicle for all, who need spaciousness and don’t want to compromise when it comes to comfort, functionality and quality”, says Georg Abel, Managing Director Service at Mercedes-Benz distribution Germany.

Matthias Neumann, Managing Director of the hosting agency Act Agency from Hamburg also welcomes the increased involvement of the automotive manufacturer. “Mercedes-Benz is a global brand and an absolute stroke of luck for our event. Similar to the Windsurf World Cup Sylt the company stands for internationality and top performance on the one hand and down-to-earth attitude and reliability on the other hand. I’m really happy that the cooperation with this premium partner will be developed further.”

At the Mercedes-Benz Windsurf World Cup the visitors can expect the proven mixture of top sports, side events, lifestyle and party, which attracted 200.000 people last year. On and above the water the windsurfing stars fight for the win at Sylt, 120.000 Euro of prize money and important world ranking points in the disciplines slalom, freestyle and wave. In freestyle the World Champion will be crowned at the Brandenburger Strand.

The German fans are hoping that the wind will be strong enough in order for the three-time Wave-World Champion Philip Köster (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) can repeat his triumph from 2012. At that time the 22-year-old won the wave riding at Sylt for the first time and since then no competition in the supreme discipline could take place due to a lack of wind. Another highlight is the Windsurf Night Session which is giving goose bumps to the spectators and the riders for many years.

Besides the sport the visitors at Westerland’s promenade will be entertained through an attractive supporting program and the Surf Radio Westerland. At 6 o’clock in the evening N-JOY The Party starts in the large event tent with two dance floors and afterwards the party continues till the small hours in one of the hip locations of Sylt.
