PWA Tips of the Week

This week we asked the freestyle fleet to unveil the secrets of gaining some extra height when they pull funnels and flakas.

Once you have mastered the basic moves like the funnel and the flaka the next step is to be able to pull them off so the whole rotation is in the air. Not only will the manoeuvre look smoother, you will score much higher points from the judges. This week we asked the freestyle fleet to share there knowledge when it came to learning air funnels and air flakas.

Max Rowe (Fanatic / North)

“For the air funnel the most important thing for me was staying more across the wind whilst ducking the sail!”

Yarden Meir (Fanatic / Simmer)

“Here is my tip for air funnel: Make sure you go upwind and don't stretch your legs, the main problem is most people stop the rotation before they land. DON’T STOP THE ROTATION KEEP ON GOING. Another tip for all air moves is try to time your ducking with the chop. Think of it as a slingshot you have to release at the right moment.”

Philip Soltysiak (Starboard / Dakine)

“To do any move in the air you need more lift from the sail, and the only way to get that extra power is to go into the move with a lot of speed and across the wind, not downwind like for most of the older moves.”

Andy Bubble Chamber (JP / NeilPryde)

“I reckon for the air moves you need to head more upwind on take off as you get a faster and higher rotation.”

Youp Schmit: (JP / NeilPryde)

“My top tip for those air moves would be to always look to where you want to go this will make you rotate faster.”

Andraz Zan (F2 / Hot Sails)

For air moves go straight or a bit upwind, keep your weight on your front foot, then jump in direction you are going to rotate with your body full speed. Also you have to lean in the opposite direction which you are heading to... million things at once, but the most important thing is that you have power in the sail and carve with the board slightly upwind… for more you can join my WINDSURF CAMPS :D www.andrazzan.com
