RED BULL STORM CHASE

Mission 1 of the Red Bull Storm Chase is go as ten of the best riders in the world head to Ireland

With an amazing looking forecast for Ireland the decision has been made to run mission 1 of the Red Bull Storm Chase. With winds gusting up to 50 or 60 knots and a swell of up to 9 metres with a 17 second period, the stage has been perfectly set for the most radical sailors in the world to take windsurfing to a whole new level.

Ireland is renowned around the world for it’s world class waves and now it has the chance to further enhance it’s reputation with what some are already calling ‘The Storm’ of the winter.

With ten of the best sailors in the world fully amped for the competition ahead, this truly should be a spectacle behold, whilst also providing a fitting tribute to Mikey Clancy, after the young Irishman tragically passed away at the beginning of January.

Who’s In?

Victor Fernandez (Fanatic / North), Robby Swift (JP / NeilPryde / Mystic / Maui Ultra Fins), Leon Jamaer (Fanatic / Hot Sails Maui), Dany Bruch (Starboard / Severne / AL360), Thomas Traversa (Tabou / Gaastra), Boujmaa Guilloul (Starboard / Severne / Mystic), Julien Taboulet, Josh Angulo (Angulo), Marcilio Browne (Goya Windsurfing / MFC) and Kenneth Danielsen (F2 / Simmer).

Unfortunately the first mission shall be missing the reigning world champion, Philip Koster (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins), after the eighteen year old suffered an injured ankle from a wave 360. The other name of note to be absent from proceedings is Ricardo Campello (JP / NeilPryde).

A few thoughts from the UK’s very own Robby Swift:

PWA: After almost 8 months of waiting for the first mission, are you prepared and excited for the first storm chase?

“Yup, really excited. Was dead yesterday night after the long journey but woke up today hearing the wind and started to feel the excitement.”

“We are all staying together so breakfast was fun, firing each other up!”

“I hope we will be able to perform the most extreme moves. We are all looking forward to it! I have my lucky 3.4 from Pozo so I hope it will bring me luck again here!”
