20 Questions with Marcilio Browne

Marcilio Browne (Goya Windsurfing / MFC) often known as Brawzinho is a formidable competitor on the PWA Wave World Tour - however at the start of his career Browne was better known for his freestyle antics and was deservedly rewarded with a maiden world crown in 2007. The 27-year-old then turned his focus to the waves - and achieved the ultimate goal in 2013 when he was crowned champion of the world in Maui, Hawaii. This season Browne looked to be back to his lethal best and returned to the overall podium and he looks set to mount another serious challenge for the 2017 PWA Wave World Championship title. Brawzinho is also the latest sailor to take the 20 question hot seat, you can read what the Brazilian had to say below:

Why are you so passionate about windsurfing?

I just love how much variety there is, it never gets boring, to me its like a mix of all my favorite action sports: Motocross, Surfing, Street skating. For the most part, the people in this sport are amazing, communities of sailors around the world will likely welcome you at their home break, give you tips and let you have a good time… On top of that I love the speed and power that we can generate without an engine and also how visually amazing and unique the tricks are.

What quality do you like most in other people?

Honesty

What annoys or frustrates you the most?

People with a lot of power putting money above everything and not caring about the consequences of what they do: politicians, some of the big corporations…

What do you most like in yourself?

I think I am determined and work hard to accomplish my goals.

What do you dislike in yourself?

I overthink stuff sometimes, hehehe , working on it.

What has been your best moment on tour?

I think winning my wave world title in 2013, dad and Caitlin were there at the beach as well as all my family and friends, who were watching at home, good times!

What has been your worst moment on tour?

When I lost to Klaas [Voget] by less than a point when they changed the scoring from 2 jumps instead of one, I think I did 3 doubles that heat trying to improve my score but needed a different second jump. That was very hard to take and took some nights of sleep to get over.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you have given yourself when your career started?

Worry less, think less. Training and working on your weakness is important, but sailing just for fun and trying whatever you want is as important. What will happen will happen, control what’s in your power and don't think about the rest. Also eat smart, sleep well and drink more water, hehe…

What is the best advice you have ever been given?

If something has no solution, a solution has already been given… move on !

What would be your perfect day?

Waking up having breakfast, Brazilian tapiocas, some nice fresh juices then going for a quick surf with really good waves. Then sailing perfect down-the-line conditions with my dad, brother, uncle, some more friends and having dinner with my loved ones, followed by a traditional Brazilian acai bowl, that’s it I think. Maybe a glass of wine, and sleep!

Which living person do you most admire?

I am not sure, there are many people I look up to for specific qualities they have. But I think I really admire my dad a lot, whenever I am in a situation that I don't know how to handle I try to think of what my dad would do if he was in my position, for the most part…

What is your greatest fear?

Losing people I love

What is your most treasured possession?

I have a couple really good boards that I would not sell even for a lot of money.

If you weren’t a professional windsurfer, what would you like to be?

I never thought about it much, maybe work in real state so that I could have some property to rent and have plenty of time to do what I love. Also would be fun to coach really talented kids that would like to compete on the world cup, maybe have a windsurf school or a team…

Where is the best place you’ve been?

I can’t say one best. But some of my favourites are Brazil, Maui, Chile and Cabo Verde are probably  top of my list.

Where would you most like to go to that you haven’t been to yet?

Fiji I think, it looks unreal for windsurfing. After watching the video from the contest in Namotu i always dreamed of going there, those images are stuck in my mind still to this day hehe.

Who would you most like to have as a dinner guest, dead or alive?

Caitlin!

How would you like to be remembered?

I don’t know… someone that tried his best and really loves to sail :)
