LEADING THE WAY

Cyril Moussilmani and Delphine Cousin currently lead the rankings, but how are they feeling ahead of the final event?

Cyril Moussilmani (Starboard / Severne) and Delphine Cousin (Starboard / Loft Sails) lead the world rankings with one event to go. Both of them have now arrived in New Caledonia to prepare for the Airwaves Noumea Dream Cup, which takes place between the 18th to the 23rd November. We caught up with the current top dogs in the title race to see how they are feeling ahead of the final event of the season:

Cyril Moussilmani shares his thoughts:

“I just arrived in New Caledonia (11th November). I come into the event without pressure as I am at the front. I think the pressure will grow during the race as anything could happen, right up until the last race. So we will see.”

“After Sylt and La Torche I trained at home as always - last week we get good wind and I trained with Pascal [Toselli], which was cool and relaxed. So, overall, I feel good.”

“My first impressions of New Caledonia is that it’s a nice place where it could be every thing from strong to light, but it's normally steady wind, so it should be easy.”

Delphine Cousin, who is currently on course to win back-to-back world titles at the age of just twenty-three:

“We didn't have a valid result in La Torche and so for girls it means no discard for the overall ranking. I don't feel too much pressure because I feel great and ready for the final in New Caledonia. But I am aiming to stay focused for the event because one mistake could cost me the title…”

PWA: What have you been doing since the last event?

DC: “I worked in the family business and I won the last event of the French Championship where conditions have been really good. I sailed with all my gear 5.6m to 7.8m and it all felt really good. It has been very good training before coming to New Caledonia.”

PWA: Have you been to NC before and what equipment will you be taking with you?

DC: “It’s my first time in NC and I am super happy to come! I don't know how the wind is - so I brought everything to be sure that I have everything to compete in best conditions. I’ve been here for a couple of days after landing here on the 12th November.”
