Schliemann goes Black

German slalom star Oliver-Tom Schliemann will be representing the dark side of windsurfing in 2012.

Oliver-Tom Schliemann (Starboard / Point-7) has a wealth of competition experience to his name, having already achieved world champion status six times in various junior disciplines. Schliemann has now moved over the to PWA slalom series where he hopes to storm to the top of the under 22’s ladder and take down some of the big names in slalom. Having been racing with North sails in 2011 Schliemann has now joined forces with Point-7 for 2012 where he hopes the famous black sails will power him to victory.

We caught up with Schliemann to find out a little more:

PWA: When did you start competing?
Schliemann: “I started quite young, when I was seven.”

PWA: When did you realise that you wanted to make a career out of windsurfing?
Schliemann: “When I won my first race.”

PWA: What do you like the most about windsurfing?
Schliemann: “ I love the freedom you have when you’re on the water.”

PWA:  What do you do when you’re not windsurfing?
Schliemann: ‘I am currently studying International Management, I also like volleyball and sailing.”

PWA:  What made you choose to go black?
Schliemann: “Point-7 is a great company that really supports young talented riders and they have put a huge amount of work into developing their sails, it is quite a small company so you feel really welcome.”

PWA: What are your goals for 2012?
Schliemann: “I hope to improve my sailing as much as possible and come in the top three in the under 22’s.
