Enes Yilmazer and Arkas

Enes Yilmazer joins forces with the Arkas Sailing Team for a cool new project

Former PWA Youth World Champion — Enes Yilmazer (Starboard / Severne) recently undertook a cool new project with one of his sponsors — Arkas — which sees the talented young Turk battling it out against a fine selection of racing yachts in a unique photo and video shoot, which was filmed in Turkey. We caught up with Enes to find out a bit more about his latest project, you read all about it below:

PWA: Where did the idea for this project/photoshoot come from?

EY: “I always like to think out of the box and come up with things that combines cool facts in whatever you are doing.  I had a friend named Hakan who owns a small helicopter which they use to fly over Cesme area and he can pretty much shoot anything. I always wanted to do some kind of photoshoot with him. Then I gave the idea of shooting me and the Arkas Sailing Team sailboat together with Hakan`s gyro to the Arkas executives, and they liked it right away. From there, We brainstormed the idea with the marketing executives thus the project happened. Photos and footage are one of the most attractive part of sailing and surf related sports. Especially, if you can get shots from different angles, that also creates more interest for our sport. So with the helicopter, we got a chance to show different angles of the sailboat and windsurfing that gives different perspective to the viewers and fans.”

PWA: Who are Arkas and how did you first come into contact with them?

EY: “Arkas is one of the biggest logistic company in the world based in Izmir, Turkey. They also have their sport club “Arkas Sport Club” under their name. I approached them in 2007 to become a licensed athlete of them and they decided to support me. Since then our relations have grown and we built an amazing relationship. They are not only my sport club but also my family as well. Arkas also has professional volleyball team (men and women) that plays in the premier league in Turkey. Other than these segments, they also have schools in swimming, mountaineering and other niche sports.”

PWA: What’s your relationship with Arkas now?

EY: “They have been my sport club since 2007, and our relationship has grown over the years.

PWA: Where abouts was the video shot and what makes it unique?

EY: “We did the shoot in Ilica, Cesme where it’s a quite open and big bay for such a shoot. We also wanted to have windy conditions which that day Ilica has delivered.  Overall it was a good canvas for us to work on.”

PWA: Do you have more project ideas for the future together with Arkas?

EY: “I also have more projects and ideas :) , I have some other plans in mind that soon I will put into action. I like to stay unique and do projects that are done right so it will take some time to work on them. But having the infrastructure and support from Arkas makes my ideas and vision become reality. So without them non of these projects would happen.”
