The Professional Windsurfers Association and Namaxa Agency are proud to announce the first Formula PWA racing event for 2002, "The Windsurfing Era PWA Formula Racing World Cup".

Newcomer to the PWA freestyle tour, John Skye scored excellent results in Gran Canaria (6th) and Fuerteventura (4th) and as a result is up in the number two slot in the overall rankings.

The windless heat wave KALIMA the windsurfer’s nightmare hit us down here at Sotavento beach on the last competition day and no more races were possible.

The day started off very well with the first women’s heats but then all of a sudden the wind turned offshore and very gusty just before the women’s semi final.

Staring out of the window from the Hotel overlooking the spot the sailors all thought that the wind was not as good as usual down at Sotavento beach but we were… WRONG.

Head judge Klaus Michel pointed out at the 10 a.m. skippers meeting important issues such as competition area, duration of the heats and the new system of using a launching area where the riders have to present themselves before their heat.

Most of the PWA riders moved straight on after the PWA Grand Slam in Gran Canaria, to Fuerteventura, to get prepared for the PWA Freestyle Grand Prix at Sotavento.

We are back on standby here on the penultimate day of the Gran Canaria PWA 2002 Grand Slam. The wind in Pozo this afternoon was too light for any official action and the competition is now all set to go down to the wire tomorrow.

We are back in action here at the Gran Canaria PWA 2002 Grand Slam. This afternoon the wind picked up enough to allow ten heats of the fourth round of freestyle to be completed.

We are still on hold here at the PWA Gran Canaria, 2002 Grand Slam. The nuclear winds of Pozo wind have currently deserted us but look set to return before the end of the competition.

The wind has finally taken a breather here in Gran Canria. After five days of hectic conditions and radical action sailors arrived at the beach this morning to the scene of a light breeze and glassy waves.

Kevin Pritchard (Bic, Gaastra) of the USA has taken first blood in the men’s single elimination wave competition after defeating local maestro Bjorn Dunkerbeck (Proof, Neil Pryde) in a thrilling climax to a day of extreme wave action.

17-year-old Ricardo Campello (JP, Neil Pryde) of Venezuela has won the third round of men’s freestyle in nuclear conditions here at the Gran Canaria 2002 PWA Grand Slam.

Current world number one PWA freestyler, Antoine Albeau (AHD, Neil Pryde) is back on top after winning the second round of the men’s freestyle here at the PWA Gran Canaria 2002 Grand Slam.
