X-Ray Invests In Freestyle's Future

Project X-Ray opens the door for freestyle’s next generation of sailors.

The PWA World Tour is the pinnacle of professional windsurfing, but a paradox has always existed for upcoming talents hoping to climb the PWA ranks; to improve they need competition experience, but sponsors are often reluctant to fund first time competitors, knowing they are unlikely to make a big impact with such little competition experience.

Taking the initiative is Italian windsurfer Raimondo ‘X-Ray’ Gasperini (Starboard). Gasperini, fed up with seeing numerous young talents going to waste, has set up Project X-Ray.

Project X-Ray is focused on 3 young Brazilian rippers, Edvan De Souza (Mistral, Simmer), Danilo Da Silva (Fanatic, North Sails), Samuel Teixeira (Starboard), and Italian freestyler, Nicola Spadea (Starboard, Severne).

The goal of the project is to help these sailors gain exposure and competition experience that they otherwise would not have access to. For 3 months, Project X-Ray will fund the team of young freestylers, as they compete in the PWA’s freestyle competitions around Europe.

Raimondo hopes the project will encourage others to set up similar schemes to help promote the future talents of windsurfing. We wish the best of luck to Project X-Ray and look forward to seeing the guys in action at the next freestyle event in Lanzarote.
