Kaseler's Creations

Gaastra's head designer, Dan Kaseler, explains the concept behind their new race sail, the Vapor.

With three of the PWA's top 6 slalom racers on their team, Gaastra are obviously pushing as hard as they can to take back the slalom title. And this year with 2009 vice world champion, Finian Maynard (RRD, Gaastra) on board, alongside Ross Williams (Tabou, Gaastra) - the only other man to win an event last season - and former world champion Kevin Pritchard (Starboard, Gaastra, Dakine), they're sure to be in with a chance.

If you pop over to the Gaastra site they have a full interview with Kaseler. Click HERE to check it out. And then have a look at how the new design should reduce drag by clicking HERE.

The new Vapor which was spotted being tested at various beaches prior to events last season will finally be on the race course this year. With its inset clew and rather large cut away, it certainly looks inventive. And judging from what Kaseler has to say, the guys must have been asking for quite a lot from this new sail - more acceleration, better top end, earlier planing etc. etc.

Perhaps this new piece of technology will help the team claim the 2010 titleā€¦
