Mikey's Magheroarty Magic

Young Irish ripper, Mikey Clancy is back on his board and riding the waves of his life!

Following a year of recovery after snapping his ankle clean in half, Mikey Clancy (Starboard, Severne) is back in the water at home in North West Ireland and has been scoring some all-time conditions. Just check out this video of Clancy getting a taste for the Magheroarty magic HERE!

After discovering that he was back on the water, we caught up with the talented young sailor to find out how his recovery was going, and what his plans were for the year ahead.

Clancy commented on his injury:

"So it's been nearly a year to the day exactly since i destroyed my ankle in Tiree following my final PWA event in Sylt. Medically, I'm 100% recovered, and as far as the fusion on my ankle is concerned it's sticking together well! Im starting to get a bit more confidence back whilst sailing now, and I'm trying to do more tricks every time I go sailing. With my ankle the way it is, it feels a little different to before, so I've had to change my stance a little and adjust my sailing to compensate. My ankle feels pretty much like normal now and there's no pain at all which is great. I've got to go back to the hospital in a year just to check that everything is going to plan, and also because I've made such a great recovery and am already at a high level of activity after such a serious procedure."

Clancy speaking about his future plans:

"My plans are to keep living the dream and get back on the PWA World Tour next year. My time out from windsurfing has made me more appreciative of what I've got, and how easily it can all be taken away from you. At the moment I'm planning on staying in Ireland for the winter months to catch some more big swells and sail as much as possible. I missed my exams at University last Christmas so I've had to repeat half the year again which sucks, but it does mean I'll have half the year off from February through to September! So, at the moment I'm planning to go to maui for 2 to 3 months and sail, sail, sail as much as i can, then hopefully I'll be competing in the new season on tour.

I've also got to say a big thanks to my family and my sponsors for sticking by me through these tough times. Your support has made things so much easier."
