Interview With Vidar Jensen
Q: What have you been up to over the winter months?
VJ: Got back to Gran Canaria from Bonaire on the 20th of December. Had a nice Christmas at home with family and friends. So pretty much relaxing at home the last 2 months, but of course also spending every opportunity I had on the water.
Q: Has Gran Canaria been windy?
<PHOTO1>
VJ: Yeah it’s been pretty good; we had a good variation of good freestyle and wave days. Last week we had 3 days with 35 knots and mast high waves that went off and had an excellent time. But we also had about 2 weeks without wind but then the surf was pretty good. It looks like it's setting up for a good season here in the Canaries, I cross my fingers...
Q: How long have you been doing one-handed double loops?
VJ: I did my first just in November, and hope to be doing some in competition this year, and maybe that will have an impact on my results!!
Q: Any other new jumps you have been practicing?
VJ: Not really, but I have been tuning other jumps that are fairly new like the Crazy Pete, clew first forwards and no handed forwards.
Q: What are your plans for next season?
<PHOTO2>
VJ: I will be doing the wave and freestyle tour like before. And am gonna try to prepare well over the next few months before the tour starts so I can make a challenge get some results and hopefully end up in the podium in waves where I was twice pretty close (4th 99- 4th 01). And of course enjoy being on tour and just windsurf, that’s the plan...
Q: What other hobbies are you into in your spare time?
VJ: I started playing golf last year, so I have been playing once or twice a week when I am at home. Before I never thought I would but I really enjoy the game. Also we had some good swells this winter so I have been doing a bit of surfing.
I really enjoy football too; I follow most the big European leagues. Don’t play much my self to avoid injuries.
Q: Are you and your brother very competitive?
VJ: I guess we are a bit competitive, I think it motivates both of us being able to train and compete together. We usually try to push each other and that improves both our levels. I prefer not draw him in a heat but it happens and when he does well I am really happy for him even if he beats me.
Q: What’s your favorite windsurfing move?
<PHOTO3>
VJ: It used to be the normal double but I guess now it has to be the one handed. It was a pretty insane feeling when I did my first one.
Q: Three words to describe yourself?
VJ: Windsurfing, positive thinker, day-by-day kind of guy.
Q: Words to live by?
VJ: May you be half an hour in heaven 20 minutes before the devil knows you’re dead! I read that in an Irish pub over a pint of Guinness...
