SEASON COUNTDOWN

The wait is almost over, just one week to go before the 2014 PWA World Tour kicks off in Costa Brava

The long close season is finally coming to an end and the PWA are ready to bring you another spectacular season packed full of drama, featuring the world’s most radical windsurfing action. A week tomorrow will see the first event of the 2014 PWA World Tour begin as the world’s fastest slalom sailors prepare to commence battle once more, after a winter full of training and tuning.

Costa Brava - which is situated 150km to the northeast of Barcelona is a windsurfers paradise, what with its stunning white sand beaches, the beautiful blue Mediterranean Sea and of course the all important clockwork like sea breezes - shall be thrown back into the windsurfing limelight with six days of adrenaline fueled racing.

Will the reigning PWA Slalom World Champion - Antoine Albeau (RRD / NeilPryde) - make the perfect start to his title defense? Or will his arch rival Bjorn Dunkerbeck (Starboard / Severne / Chris Benz / Dunkerbeck Eyewear) be able to reign on his parade and put the horrors of last season behind him?

Of course there’s a whole host of established sailors that are more than capable of challenging for top honors such as the flying Dutchman Ben Van Der Steen (Tabou / Gaastra / Mystic / Different), last year’s Vice-World Champion Alberto Menegatti (Starboard / Point-7), the scintillating talent of Julien Quentel (RRD / NeilPryde) as well as many more.

Britain’s Ross Williams (Tabou / Gaastra) will come into the event full of confidence after his win in the Formula World Championships, last year saw light winds in Costa Brava which could play in the Brit’s favor. Perhaps the up and coming talents of Matteo Iachino (Fanatic / North), Enrico Marotti (JP / NeilPryde) and Maciek Rutkowski (Patrik / Point-7) will step up to the mark and show why they are the future of the slalom world.

The first event of the season is always a fascinating prospect as it becomes apparent who is on the fastest equipment, who has excelled during the off season and ultimately who will take an early lead in the title race. Make sure you don’t miss a thing by tuning into the PWA website from the 27th May.
