STARBOARD SEVERNE PWA WORLD CUP

Day 11: A moody day in Maui before the closing ceremony takes place tomorrow

The wall-to-wall sunshine, which has blessed Maui for much of the last ten days was replaced with more stormy weather today, as a new weather front moved in. However, that didn’t stop the crowds from hitting the water as the waves continued to pummel into Ho’okipa.

With no windsurfing on offer today we quickly caught up with the newly crowned world champion - Iballa Moreno (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins):

PWA: Congratulations on winning the Aloha Classic - just as you did in 2006 - that’s a pretty good way to round off the year, right?

IB: “Yeah, it couldn’t have gone better for me. Its great to return to Maui for the first time since 2006 and I also managed to win it the last time around, so it’s a really special victory for me. I haven’t won that many events in my career, so I’m really happy to have won this one two times. Maui is a special place for me. I couldn’t be happier right now.”

PWA: What are you going to be up to now?

IB: “We’re still going to be in Maui for another few days - together with Rodrigo and Daida - so hopefully just enjoying the waves at Ho’okipa - windsurfing, standup paddle boarding or surfing. So I’m going to enjoy having a little holiday in Hawaii before going back home.”

“When I go back home I’ll start my preparations for next year - training for both the SUP and windsurfing world tours again. I’m already looking forward to it.”

PWA: Thanks, Iballa, and huge congratulations again.

Tomorrow will see the official closing ceremony take place at 7pm as the new champions of the world are officially crowned. Meanwhile, if you haven’t seen it already then be sure to check out the highlights of the 2014 Starboard Severne PWA World Cup, which can be found here.
