A Year to Remember

Victor Fernandez showing why he was very nearly crowned world champion for the second time

At the first wave event of 2014 - Gran Canaria Wind&Waves Festival - Victor Fernandez (Fanatic / North / MFC) quietly went about his business, slipping under the radar, with much of the spotlight being focused on Philip Koester (Starboard / Severne / MFC), Marcilio Browne (Goya Windsurfing / MFC) and Ricardo Campello (Patrik / Point-7 / MFC) at the beginning of the year.

However, come the end of the week all eyes were on Fernandez after the Spaniard produced a devastating display to blow away the rest of the competition, whilst at the same time sending out a timely reminder that he is a former world champion who clearly has the hunger and ability to win more titles.

Fernandez led the title charge after three events - having not finished outside the top three at this point - but it would soon be Thomas Traversa (Tabou / GA Sails), who would lead the way after victory in Denmark and second place in France. The margin between the Frenchman and the Spaniard was still minimal as they headed into the final event of the year - the Starboard Severne Aloha Classic - but it was Traversa who reigned supreme to claim his maiden world title, whilst ending Fernandez’s hopes of a first world crown since 2010.

So in the end Fernandez finished the year as the PWA Wave Vice-World Champion and the Spaniard has now released a brand new brilliant movie, capturing the best moments from 2014, which sees a blend between events and some of his freesailing. The level as always is out of this world and well worth a watch.
