Podersdorf PWA Surf World Cup

Event Summary: The wind remains tantalisingly teasing meaning tow-in took centre stage

Neusiedler See showed almost every side it has to offer over the course of the 2015 Podersdorf PWA Surf World Cup - as anything from cold and blustery winds on the opening morning, to drizzling rain and moody skies were seen at some point over the last five days, as well as periods of wall-to-wall sunshine, which you’d have been forgiven for making you think you were somewhere in the Mediterranean.

Unfortunately, the brief periods of wind which filtered through Podersdorf didn’t last quite long enough - meaning that for the first time since September 2011 it was not possible to gain a result at a freestyle contest. However, even in those short spells of wind, Neusiedler See, again clearly showed its potential, not only as a great freestyle spot for world class sailors, but also for beginners and intermediates a like with its shallow waters providing an ideal, safe, training playground to progress.

Although the wind may not have played ball, there was still plenty of explosive action to be witnessed thanks to the Chiemsee Tow-in, which saw thirty sailors battling it out in three qualifying heats in order to progress into the final.

The final was held on the last day in front of a packed out crowd and they were treated to a spectacular display with some new tow-in moves being landed. Just as in France, Kiri Thode (Starboard / GA Sails), came out on top as he landed an incredible double culo to hold off stern competition from fellow Bonairean - Tonky Frans (Tabou / GA Sails) - and also Englishman Adam Sims (Patrik / Sailloft Hamburg).

As always Podersdorf provided plenty of entertainment both on and off the water and we’ll look forward to returning again next year.
