Leading the Way

Current Men’s Slalom top three take a look ahead to Costa Brava with just under a week to go

The second PWA Slalom event of the year is rapidly approaching with just six days to go before the men resume their adrenaline fuelled battle. Reigning world champion - Antoine Albeau (RRD / NeilPryde) - currently leads the way after the opening event, closely followed by Pierre Mortefon (Fanatic / North) and Josh Angulo (Angulo / Gun Sails) - all of whom we quickly caught up with to gain their thoughts on the upcoming event.

Antoine Albeau: “I was doing the Défi Wind then I was at home busy between training, TV report in Paris and this time of the year I put my sailing school on the beach for the season. Now I will be in CB few days before to tune a bit my stuff. I am looking forward to the event and see how my light wind gear is performing, Pierre was really consistent in Korea and Josh as well, now there will be many more sailors fighting for the first place in the light wind.”

Pierre Mortefon: “From my side everything is all right! I had a super good month of May with lot of sailing. Right after Korea, we participated in a legendary event in Gruissan for the DEFI WIND with epic conditions and all the best riders of the last 20 years. I managed to win this event in front of 1199 other riders in my home spot, I am super stoked about this performance. Now I have to be back in World Cup format but we had a good training event in Brittany for the French tour. Costa Brava is a good place where you can sail almost everyday with the thermal wind. I feel pretty confident with all my big stuff which is super important for this location. Korea was a good beginning for me and I really want to continue like this and to try and repeat last year’s performance when I achieved my first PWA podium. So, I am ready!”

Josh Angulo: “I've been enjoying a good season here in Boston.... We've had some good weather with lots of windy days so I've been able to get on the water more than usual. Getting a good result in Korea has gotten me a bit more psyched up to keep tuning and testing with my test partner, Garmin, have been at it any chance we get to keep trying to find any advantages with masts, mast track/footstrap settings, fins etc. I'm looking forward to Costa Brava and some nightly barbecues at the bungalow!”
