Davidoff Cool Water Sylt PWA World Cup

The freestyle fleet once again provided the entertainment in Sylt with more explosive tow-in as high pressure continued to dominate proceedings — meaning the main competition remained on hold. With a light onshore breeze the conditions were challenging with choppy water making starting a challenge, however, as always the world’s best still produced several moments of magic. 

The tow-in began at 3pm with 15 sailors battling it out for the 6 qualifying places into the final, which will be held on Saturday afternoon. Each sailor was given three attempts to produce their best manoeuvre and Kiri Thode (Starboard / GA Sails) won the opening tow-in qualification heat with a radical one-handed double air funnel, which he planed out of to earn 27 points out of a possible 30. 

The remaining five places were claimed by Steven Van Broeckhoven (JP / NeilPryde), Julien Mas (JP / Avanti), Yentel Caers (JP / NeilPryde), Marco Lufen (JP / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) and Amado Vrieswijk (JP / Severne)..

Tomorrow’s forecast looks similar to today so the skippers’ meeting shall once again be held at 10am with the action commencing from 10:30am — if conditions allow. If the wind remains too light again there will be a SUP race in the afternoon — followed by the Philips Tow-in Final night session, which will begin at 8pm and feature the top 12 sailors from day 5.
