Davidoff Cool Water Sylt PWA World Cup

Day 9: Amado Vrieswijk wins explosive tow-in final

The tow-in action went bigger than ever on the penultimate day of the 2015 Davidoff Cool Water Sylt PWA World Cup as waist high waves created the perfect stunt ramps for the contortionists of the windsurfing world to  throw themselves into a mind blowing repertoire of explosive tricks.

The first thing on the agenda today was to complete the second tow-in qualification round to decide the remaining six places in the final. The opening of which was slightly disappointing with the winch proving tricky to operate between the waves. However, once the jetski was introduced the action immediately improved. After 3 attempts each it was Yegor Popretinskiy (Fanatic / North / Maui Ultra Fins), Hugo de Sousa (RRD / RRD / Maui Ultra Fins), Taty Frans (Starboard / GA Sails / Mystic), Steven Van Broeckhoven (JP / NeilPryde), Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo (Fanatic / North / MFC) and Antoine Albert (Tabou / GA Sails) secure their place in the final.

The action in the final was insane and Julien Mas (JP / Avanti), Amado Vrieswijk (JP / Severne) and Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo all earned perfect 10s from the judges, such was the level of their displays. Mas rotated through an amazing pasko 360, which looked like it would be difficult to match, but Vrieswijk rose to the challenge as he launched into an absolutely massive pasko. Gollito saved his best effort until his last run to force a three way sail off for the title, after landing a quite ridiculous pasko into shifty.

The three remaining sailors were given one chance to shine and it was Vrieswijk, who grabbed the opportunity with both hands as he rotated through the first ever tow-in double air culo to deservedly be crowned the winner ahead of Gollito and Mas.

Unfortunately the forecast doesn’t look good for tomorrow, so a SUP Race has been organised for 12pm before the prize giving ceremony later in the afternoon, which you will be able to see live via the PWA live stream @ www.pwaworldtour.com.
