20 year old Jazzy Zwerus made her debut appearance on the PWA Freestyle World Tour last year in Fuerteventura - where she eventually finished in 10th place overall. After making her first appearance on the tour we caught up with her to find out more about her and her plans for the future. You can read the interview below:

PWA: Hey Jazzy, firstly can you tell us a little bit about yourself… where your from, how old you are, what you enjoy?

JZ: “Hi Chris! Well, my name is Jazzy Noah Zwerus, I am 20 years old and I'm from the Netherlands! I enjoy traveling, windsurfing and spending time with my friends and family.”

PWA: What first made you want to get into windsurfing?

JZ: “I was living on Bonaire and the first time I went to the windsurf beach I saw Kiri Thode freestyling.. I could not believe my eyes! I never saw anything like that but it looked so cool!

Then I met my boyfriend Loïck Spicher and he started to teach me.”

PWA: How long have you been windsurfing?

JZ: “I started windsurfing in April 2014.. So that is one year and 9 months now!”

PWA: Who has been you biggest influence on your sailing?

JZ: “Loïck Spicher for sure! He is the  one who taught me everything and really pushed me to go for freestyling!”

PWA: What would you be doing if you weren’t windsurfing?

JZ: “Pff.. I guess I would still live on Bonaire, work there, do some other sports!”

PWA: Where is your favorite place to windsurf and why?

JZ: “My favorite place.. I have two, Brazil and Bonaire! Brazil because of the great strong wind, the different spots flat and wave and the lifestyle. Bonaire because it is just paradise with the clear blue water and perfect flat water. Also these two places mean a lot to me. On Bonaire I started windsurfing and in Brazil I started freestyling.”

PWA: What is your favorite move and why?

JZ: “Frontloop! I learned this move in Brazil this year and it is so awesome! The feeling when you do it is really sick!”

PWA: What move did you find the hardest to learn and why?

JZ: “Flaka!!! Man, that move is so hard... I tried thousands and I just landed one recently hahah. The technique feels so unnatural after learning to vulcan and spock! It goes against my nature.”

PWA: What new moves are you currently learning?

JZ: “I am busy with shaka, toad, switch and normal stance kono!”

PWA: How do you learn your moves? Videos? Watching others?

JZ: “I learn my moves by video analysing and trying it in my head a lot. My boyfriend helps me so much with this, on land and on water!”

PWA: What do you do when you’re not windsurfing?

JZ: “When I am not windsurfing I love to go to the beach or watch a movie. Love spending time with friends!”

PWA: What are your goals for 2016?

JZ: “My goal is to learn more moves, win some heats and enjoy as much as I can!”

PWA: We saw you’ve joined the NeilPryde Team as well as the JP Team — how do you feel about that?

JZ: “I am super happy to be in the JP-Neilpryde team! That is a big motivation for the 2016 season! The equipment is really good and I am looking forward to have a great cooperation with them.”

PWA: Where are you at the moment?

JZ: “I am now in Venezuela, El Yaque. The condition are quite hard, but it is good training. I will be here 3 months.”

PWA: Favourite film?

JZ: “Favorite film.. hmm that is a hard one.. I watched Avatar like 20 times.. But also Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my favourites. And nice and kitch.. I also liked Twilight a lot.”

PWA: If you were on a desert island what 3 items would you choose to take with you?

JZ: “My boyfriend, my equipment and water!”

PWA: If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?

JZ: “The Dalai Lama, I think he is a big source of inspiration and a perfect example of what a good human is.”

PWA: If you could pick a super power, what would it be?

JZ: “Easy. I would choose that I could teleport myself wherever I want to! I could go to any place in the world in just one second. How cool would that be!”

PWA: Pet hates?

JZ: “I hate the cold. No matter if it is with windsurfing, the weather or a shower.”

PWA: Thanks Jazzy, enjoy the rest of your winter and we’ll look forward to seeing you next year.
