Latest update from Ricardo Campello after sustaining injury in Maui

Ricardo Campello (Patrik / Point-7 / MFC) is one of the biggest name in windsurfing. The 30 year old shot to fame as a teenager as he won 3 PWA Freestyle World Championships in a row between 2003-2005 and since then Campello has continued to push the boundaries of the sport — making him one of the most radical and most exciting sailors in the world to watch. Unfortunately, when it comes to pushing the sport there is always a risk and Campello suffered an injury while sailing in Maui. He is still waiting for the full diagnosis, but you can read the latest update from Ricardo below:

Ricardo Campello: “Well, I have been protected by a really good guardian angel. I have to admit I have been lucky with my injuries, I try to risk as much as I can but at the same time try to avoid injuries and always try to land my wipeouts in the right way! Today it was my turn to get an injury on the stupidest way and smaller part of the wave. I got my back foot stuck in the strap and the other one out and my board twisted and I heard two “cracks” on my foot (while my mast broke), Good news is that no bones are broken, bad news is I still have to do an MRI to check the ligaments — so finger crossed, I guess it was my pay day today.

“I'll fly home and have a doctor check it and hopefully recover in time for the first event in Pozo and hopefully it is not so bad, so I can compete without any problems! Lets see and pray for it to be not so serious, otherwise I don't know what I will do. I really can’t be out of the water for long!!! Thank you all for the cool messages on my social media. I have read them all and I really appreciate the support from everyone!”

From everyone at the PWA we wish Ricardo and speedy and successful recovery and hope that he will be fighting fit for the first wave event of the year in Pozo.
