Lanzarote is one of the great windsurfing destinations in the world, and offers conditions ideal for the beginner and the expert alike. The coast is home to numerous windsurfing schools and specialized centers to suit all skill levels. The trade winds blow throughout the year, guaranteeing excellent windsurfing conditions in all seasons.

Conditions in Las Chucharas vary from flat water on the inside section, with small waves breaking off the point, rolling swells and then another break 300 meters offshore. With the competition scheduled to take place in Lanzarote’s prime season, the event is already lining up for an epic week of wind blasted mayhem.

Lanzarote will be the first event on this years freestyle calendar with the likes of Ricardo Campello (JP, Neil Pryde), Robby Swift (JP, Neil Pryde) Tonki Frans (Gaastra, F2), Douglas Diaz (North, Fanatic) all set to show the world their latest mind boggling freestyle moves. In the women’s division, the infamous Pozo twins Daida and Iballa Moreno (Mistral, North) will be out to stamp their authority on the proceedings although Karin Jaggi (F2, Arrows), Nayra Alonso (Fanatic) and Silvia Orozco could be major threats this season.

Competing for the first time in Super X discipline Kevin Pritchard (Gaastra, Starboard) will be drawing form his racing experience to pitch battle against the existing Super X hierarchy. Word has it ‘The Pritch’ has been perfecting his spocks in Maui and with his proven expertise on the racing circuit he could cause some upsets.

As it stands Antoine Albeau (AHD, Neil Pryde) of France leads this years Super X rankings ahead of fellow French sailor, Cyril Moussilmani (Fanatic) and Britain’s Nik Baker (Mistral, North). Albeau stormed to victory at the opening event of the season in Leucate, France but Moussilmani hit back in Costa Brava with an inspired performance.

Costa Teguise is also a notorious party area, buzzing with lively bars and nightclubs so the action is likely to be non-stop off, as well as on the water. The suspense is already building prior to this major battle of the titans, so sure to tune in to the PWA web site www.pwaworldtour.com for all the latest news!
