Tip of the Week

Fancy learning to aerial in time for Christmas?

If you are an avid wave sailor then learning to aerial is no doubt one of your top priorities once you are happily combining some turns and reading the wave. Through trial and error you can likely teach yourself, but we thought we’d try and make your mission a little bit easier by acquiring the help of the 2016 NoveNove Maui Aloha Classic Champion — Kevin Pritchard (Starboard / Ezzy / MFC) to share his top tips for learning aerials.

Kevin Pritchard’s aerial top tips: “When you are first trying to learn aerials don’t setup by trying to go super deep into the bottom turn. Take a straighter line and try and aim for the part of the wave that is coming right at you, then hit the lip to get projected forwards and into the air. Start with your backhand down the boom, but as soon as you hit the lip move it forward a little bit so that you can adjust the sail and not get too overpowered. This is a micro-tip, but can make a big difference. I hope that helps.”

Good luck with learning to aerial. If there’s anything else you are desperate to learn, but need a few tips then let us know via our Facebook or Twitter - @pwaworldtour.
