Carbon Art

The PWA are delighted to unveil Carbon Art as a proud new sponsor. Find out more about them now in our interview

The PWA are delighted to welcome aboard Carbon Art as a proud new sponsor of the world tour. Carbon Art have been shaping and designing boards for over 20 years and are based in New Zealand, but to tell you more about them we caught up with James Dinnis (Carbon Art’s Founder and Board Designer) for an interview, which you can read below:

Hi James, firstly, can you tell us a little bit more about Carbon Art? The philosophy and idea behind the company?

Carbon Arts mission is all about raising your performance and maximising your sailing enjoyment.

The company has been built on our own passion for windsurfing and the dedicated pursuit of the ultimate windsurf experience. Over 20 years of board building and design knowledge has gone into our range of production shapes. All of which are built combining precision CAD shaping and hand finished to order. Our fairly unique system allows riders to customise their build in regard to construction and graphic options, providing sailors with a more personal experience.

What first made you want to get into designing and shaping boards?

Learnt the art and science over 20 years ago, whilst spending 3 years living on Maui building boards for PWA sailors that demanded the best. Windsurfing was (and will always be!) a big part of my life, so the next clear step was setting up Carbon Art back in 1995.

Why have you decided now is the right time to join the PWA?

Carbon Art is in a growth phase right now and we recognised it was the right time to get our boards competing on the international stage. We’re excited to be a part of the Pro tour and to be putting our boards into the hands (and onto the feet!) of some of the best riders out there.

Which pro sailors will be riding for you this season? And why did you choose those sailors?

Omar Sanchez (Carbon Art / KA Sails) is our main international rider on the wave team and will be competing in all the main PWA events. His positive, proactive approach and love of windsurfing was a perfect match for Carbon Art, and we’re really looking forward to working with and supporting him at these events and beyond.

What are your goals are for the future?

Long term we’d like to build towards having a full team on the PWA, competing globally in Wave, Slalom and Freestyle. Planning for this is underway with a new speed range being released in March and the Slalom in September. Otherwise our main mission goal is always in play - elevating the level of board performance, is a long, but highly enjoyable task!
