20 Questions

Iballa Moreno (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) is one half of the legendary Moreno Twins, who have dominated the women’s side of the sport for the last two decades. Between them they have won an incredible 26 world titles - with Iballa being crowned the women’s wave world for the last three years running. The Moreno twins are one of the greatest stories in windsurfing, so we thought they would make great candidates for the 20 questions hot seat - first up Iballa.

1.Why are you so passionate about windsurfing?

Because windsurfing is a fun sport and everyday is different. Always a challenge to improve and gives me motivation to go in the water and learn new things everyday. Im lucky to say windsurfing is my hobby and my job.

2. What quality do you like most in other people?

Any quality in other riders are always good to watch and learn from them.

3. What annoys or frustrates you the most?

When the forecast looks good for windsurfing and when I get to the beach its nothing like that…

4. What do you most like in yourself?

That I’m always open for new challenges.

5. What do you dislike in yourself?

My injuries.

6. What has been your best moment on tour?

Being in the final with Daida in Tenerife.

7. What has been your worst moment on tour?

Can´t complain so far. 

8. Knowing what you know now, what advice would you have given yourself when your career started?

Train hard to become the sailor you dream about. You can always do it!

9. What is the best advice you have ever been given?

Any advice is always good advice - if you give it to the right person/friend that admires you…

10. What would be your perfect day?

Surf in the morning and windsurf rest of the day with a good dinner at home with a movie.

11. Do you have any superstitions?

Not really.

12. Which living person do you most admire?

Daida. She is very passionate and powerful windsurfer.

13. What is your most treasured possession?

My family and friends.

14. If you weren’t a professional windsurfer, what would you like to be?

Not sure….I always dreamed becoming a professional athlete. 

15. Where is the best place you’ve been?

Best for me is Canary Islands (all around), Pozo Izquierdo especially, but I love discovering new places like Fiji, Australia, Hawaii, Brazil…

16. Where would you most like to go to that you haven’t been to yet?

South Africa.

17. Who would you most like to have as a dinner guest, dead or alive?

Meryl Streep.

18. How would you like to be remembered?

As Morenotwins.
