How to culo

Last week we brought you a technique article on how to burner and this week we are bringing you more tips on one of the most popular power moves at the moment - the culo - which is essentially a regular stance burner. If you are an aspiring freestyler and attempting to learn moves which involve a rig duck then maybe the culo could be the next move for you. Read on to find out the top tips for the culo.

Max Rowe (Simmer / Simmer Sails / Mystic):

- The big one for the culo is to make sure you’re using your head (vision) to aid the rotation. If you’re finding that you land on top of your sail a lot then it can be quite an easy fix… just make sure that from the moment you take off you’re looking over your shoulder. After all you always end up where you’re looking so if you’re staring at the sail it’s inevitable that you will land on it, so keeping your vision higher and looking up will automatically improve your body position.

Rick Jendrusch (Severne):

- Throw the sail with power to your toes and push on your back hand to rotate over the sail and keep the power in the sail. Watch over your shoulder.

- Do this on a half wind course, try to rotate your hips and shoulders in the direction you want to rotate.

- Lastly jump over your sail

Dieter Van der Eyken (Starboard / Severne):

- The tips for the culo are pretty similar as for the burner because it’s the same rotation - the only difference is that you are in regular stance when you duck the sail and not switch when.

-The only important thing here is to try to keep the sail behind you as you are going to land. This will give you control over the rotation and allow you to sail away from the move.
