Vintage Ho’okipa

In the run up to the showcase PWA Aloha Classic end of season finale, we thought it pertinent to show how it used to be back in the good ‘ol days.

Taken from Robert Masters' video yearbook, "Boardsailing Year, Volume Two", you can see coverage of the O'Neill Invitational, filmed at Ho’okipa Beach Park back in 1986 – a classic event featuring Robby Naish, Mike Waltze, Dana Dawes, and Shawne O'Neill amongst others on an uncharacteristically grey day.

Twenty years later, most of these sailors are still out there ripping it up on the North Shore of Maui, and one or two will be competing in the Masters category at the famous Aloha event once more.

Amongst a few familiar faces in this clip are a young Rush Randle, (Wearing a great hat!) and an even younger Josh Angulo!
