The Best of…Scott McKercher
Powerful 36 year old Aussie charger and 2004 World Wavesailing Champ Scott McKercher’s (KA-181, Starboard / Severne), been on tour long enough to be called ‘Gramps’ by his peers - largely for his wise insights on wave riding style. Currently ranked 7th with one event to go, he’s a seasoned contest journeyman, and far roaming adventurer at home or away. Like the fine Red Wines of his Margaret River home, McKercher’s superior vintage just gets better and better as time goes on. Here’s his take on the finer things in life.
Thing about being an Aussie is: Enjoying our massive coastline
Thing about being on tour is: Meeting up with friends all over the world and getting to sail heaps while having a pseudo sense of purpose
Party I went to recently: Sylt!
Board I’ve ever ridden: Starboard Evo 70 at Gnaraloo. Absolutely sweet…
Traveling companions: I pretty much travel solo most of the time, so, I suppose my tunes.
Looking ladies are: Everywhere
Day on tour ever: Going to the event in Mexico in the Motor homes, arriving and having the point going off with all the fella's. That was a dream trip.
Result I’ve had this year: 5th in Portugal
Training outside of windsurfing: Surfing /golfing and bike riding
Place to party: Sylt
Session I can remember: I've got like a top 4 that I really can't distinguish between. One in Cabo Verde. One up Northern WA at a place I can't tell you where, a sick one at Rottnest island in WA, and one sesh in the Coco's islands.
Destination for a trip: West Oz of course!
Local spot at home: Margaret’s
Windsurf shot I’ve ever seen: A Panoramic shot of a break up north a friend took. I had it printed on canvas and it’s on my wall. It's sick!
Windsurf film I’ve ever seen: Pozza's about time
Juniors I’ve seen recently: Jaeger Stone without doubt. The kid is ripping
Place on tour: Guincho!
