2002 PWA Freestyle Qualifier Neuesiedler See Austria Preview

The PWA Freestyle tour will shortly be arriving in Nuesiedler See Austria. Nuesiedler See burst onto the scene in 1998 with a superbly organized festival event just 50 miles south of Vienna. The crowds flocked by their thousands not only to watch the action but also to party the nights away in huge marquee’s around the event site. The PWA is always given a warm welcome by the Austrian crowds…after all Nuesiedler See is the home of the first ever PWA freestyle event.

The shallow lake in the flatlands of Burgenland make for top performances close to the shore during the contest. It is indeed a superb water sports location anytime between April and September although during the winter it can be closed due to ice.

The party scene, which goes along with the event, is legendary. The music in the tents pulses long into the night and partygoers from all over Austria come especially to join the fun. Sailors are obviously coming to Austria to compete but the lure of the party can sometimes be hard to resist!

This years event is a PWA qualifier, which will help the chances of un-seeded sailors to gain access into bigger PWA freestyle events. Since the introduction of freestyle as a discipline the standard of freestyle has literally gone through the roof. Unknown sailors have been turning up at events and kicking ass! This element of the competition has really been making freestyle exciting to watch. The event commences on the 26th of April and will run through until the 30th.
