2002 PWA Freestyle Qualifier Costa Brava Preview

The Bay of Roses in the north of the Costa Brava is one of the best areas in Spain for windsurfing.

The Bay of Roses in the north of the Costa Brava is one of the best areas in Spain for windsurfing. The twelve-mile stretch of coastline enjoys either thermal winds in the summer or the infamous Tramontana winds in the spring. Because of the timing of the event between seasons it is possible to get wind from either or both directions.

The PWA initially visited Costa Brava in 1999 and now it is one of the favourite event locations amongst the sailors on the freestyle tour. Vidar Jensen of Norway was the first event winner back in 1999 and he will be back this year in Spain to defend his title. Jensen is known for his jumping ability and will be hoping for strong winds in which he specializes.

Around the event site are numerous tourist attractions and places to camp. The whole area is completely set up for a fantastic windsurfing and all round vacation. Every sailor that came to last years event was impressed with the awesome natural beauty of the area and the incredible hospitality provided by the local organizers.

This years competition is classed as a PWA Qualifier and with 25,000 Euros up for grabs is likely to attract a world-class fleet of International freestylers. Registration day will be on the 11th of June with official action taking place between the 12th and the16th.
