Monster winds forecast for world-record speed attempt...

The purpose-built Masters of Speed canal in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, France is set to open for business this week.

Mental winds are forecast from the favoured and rare South Easterly direction that could well see the fabled 50-knot barrier smashed.

33-yr old British Virgin islander, Finian Maynard (F2 / NeilPryde) is the rolling events co-organizer and current record holder with his run of 48.7 knots set on the canal back in 2004.

The forecasts suggest Thursday, January 3rd, and Friday the 4th will be the optimum period for new challenges.

PWA star Antoine Albeau (Starboard / NeilPryde) seized the French record back in November alongside fellow racer Patrik Diethelm (F2 / North) of Italy who destroyed the previous production equipment time.

You can follow the action live either via event partner Windsurf Journal or at the Masters of Speed websites.
