Sailor history
Philip Adamidis was born in Athens Greece. He began windsurfing in 1980 at the age of 14. He started training in Div II racing and only two years later became men’s Div II champion. The same year while still at school, he started competing in International level and finished 21st in European men Div II championshipIn Neuseedler See Austria. In 1983 the first Funboard races took place in Greece and ever since he switched to this type of racing. His experience in tactical sailing and his skills, helped him to excel in all 3 disciplines (race, slalom and wave) attracting the interest of Peter Brockhouse the owner of F2 that offered him a place in the official F2 team and the chance to sail in the best locations around the world including Australia and Hawai. In the 1986 annual PWA ranking, he finished 28th in Waves, 33rd in Slalom and 41st in Course Racing. In National level, he managed to win every single race he took part in, resulting in an impressive track record of being consecutive Greek champion from 1983 until the early 90’s when he somehow retired to seek a professional career.Even as a casual competitor after his “unofficial” retirement, his accumulated experience helped him to always finish among the top Greek participants in all PWA events held in Paros and Rhodes between the years 1993-2000. 1998 was a landmark in his career since he made a full comeback and did three PWA events in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Paros as part of preparation for the 1998 TAWR (Trans Atlantic Windsurf Race) where he teamed up with PWA Racing Champion Micah Buzianis to form the Greek team that finished second in that prestigious event.
The past couple of years, he did not do any racing since no racing was held in Greece except Formula. The recent introduction of GPS-Speedsurfing and the return of Slalom racing is a great opportunity for a full come back in 2007 with local and International Slalom and Speed races on schedule.
