PWA Shanghai Foil Freestyle Invitational 2026

For the first time in history, professional windsurfing arrives in China.

The PWA Shanghai Freestyle Foil Invitational 2026 brings together twelve of the world's most talented Freestyle Foil athletes for a landmark event at Yuandang Lake, Qingpu District, Shanghai, from 7th to 11th November 2026.

This is a PWA Special Invitational Event, conceived as a historic first step for the sport in China and a platform for one of windsurfing's most exciting and innovative disciplines. Freestyle Foil is explosive, even in light winds, technical and visually spectacular with the additional height they gain from the foil. Riders will be judged on variety, technical difficulty and amplitude.

Twelve invited athletes, representing over ten nationalities will compete across five days at Yuandang Lake, a venue on the edge of one of the world's most dynamic cities. The event is organised in partnership with Shanghai Leisure Sports and Sports Event Management Centre.

Should wind conditions not allow the main Freestyle Foil competition to be completed, a Tow-In Freestyle session will be held to guarantee a valid result, so the action is assured regardless of conditions.

This is more than just a competition. It is the beginning of what we hope will become a lasting relationship between professional windsurfing and China.
