Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup

Event organiser, Bjørn Dunkerbeck, looks ahead to the 2025 Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup, which runs between 5th-13th July

This year marks the 37th edition of the Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup and with the event now just over a week away we managed to catch up with Bjørn Dunkerbeck (Starboard / Severne Sails), who has been organising the event since 2022.

Hi Bjørn, how are preparations going for this year’s event?

“The preparations have been going on since January with all the paper work that most don’t see. Now we are on to the more fun stuff like setting up the site in Pozo Izquierdo. A lot of the top windsurfers are already here since the beginning of June training and from what I can see the level is higher than ever with more great riders in all categories.”

If you were a betting man… who would you pick to win the event in both the men’s and women’s?

“Top 3 men Philip [Köster], Brawzinho, Marino [Gil]… Then Ricardo [Campello], Mark [Paré], Liam [Dunkerbeck], Robby [Swift], Takuma [Sugi] and Julian [Salmonn]… but also others are ripping, so it will come down to ever had the luck in the seeding as well.

In the women, Daida [Moreno] is back, Sarah-Quita [Offringa], Iballa [Moreno]. Also Alexia [Kiefer Quintana] and Maria Morales, but again there’s a lot of new faces, so let’s see.

We all need to power and like the social media to help promote our sport, as well as everyone promote the live stream broadcast to push our sport and become even more attractive to outside sponsors.”

Thanks, Bjørn, good luck with the rest of the preparations.
