Sorobon Magic

Sarah-Quita Offringa lighting up the beautiful Sorobon Beach

Sarah-Quita Offringa’s (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) patience eventually paid off in her efforts to sail at Sorobon Beach, Bonaire. The 14-time world champion didn’t have the easiest of journeys, but in the end she managed to sneak in a late evening session at one of the most famous freestyle spots in the world.

Sarah-Quita Offringa: “I flew back to Aruba after Cape Town for a night and then packed again to head to Bonaire for the Brunotti clothing photoshoot. Even though Aruba and Bonaire are so close, I never really manage to go. Bonaire is such an amazing place, but I often miss the wind. Although lately the wind has been nonstop in the Caribbean so I wasn’t going to miss my chance to sail at beautiful Sorobon. The planes are usually small between the islands, but I tried my luck to bring my gear with me and it was easy!

Then the real adventure started: to make it to Sorobon from the airport. I couldn’t find a ride. But I had a lot of patience, and mostly was just really desperate to get a session in. Between rides, I think it took me like 5 hours to finally make it to the beach so I could still catch the last sun rays of light.

It was a short session, but so completely worth it. I don’t know what it is… apart from it being a fun spot, it’s really a special feeling to sail at Sorobon! Thanks to Kuma for capturing 25 minutes of happiness.”
