Gran Canaria Wind & Waves Festival
The first stop on the 2018 Men's PWA Wave World Tour is now just under two weeks away with Pozo Izquierdo set to host to the most radical sailors in the world between 15th-21st July for the Gran Canaria Wind & Waves Festival, which will mark the events 30th anniversary, while the Women will be in action for the second-time after their season opener in Morocco.
Before the start of the Gran Canaria Wind & Waves Festival we will be catching up with a few of the key players and first up is two-time PWA Wave World Champion - Victor Fernandez (Fanatic / NorthSails / Shamal Sunglasses) - who holds an absolutely incredible record in Pozo Izquierdo, which reads 6x firsts and 5 second places in the last 11 years, which obviously earmarks the Spaniard as one of the top candidates for the opening event of 2018.
Victor Fernandez on how he’s feeling about the start of the season and his incredible Pozo record: “I’m feeling good. I had a small injury on my foot in April before the photoshoot on Maui but I feel quite good now.
I arrived in Pozo on June 10th and we had some fun days of sailing. I’m very happy with how my equipment is working and I’m very stoked to be back in Gran Canaria, it’s a very special place. I come to Pozo since I’m 14 years old every summer for 2 months so I have a lot of friends here and its feels like home to me.
I have 6 first places and 5 second places in the last 11 years. I love sailing here and I’m very motivated for the upcoming PWA event. I will try my best.”
