Cold Hawaii Youth Windsurf Wave & Slalom World Cup

Day 3: The next generation of wave sailors take centre stage as first finals of the week completed in classic Cold Hawaii conditions

Klitmøller delivered classic Cold Hawaii conditions on Day 3 of the 2025 Cold Hawaii Youth Windsurf Wave & Slalom World Cup with strong southwesterly winds, clean sets rolling over the reef, bursts of sunshine, and heavy rain squalls. Despite the intermittent weather, the energy on the water was electric as the youth riders put on a spectacular show.

The day kicked off with a skippers’ meeting at 12:00pm at Surfklubben NASA. The waves were already forming nicely, but the wind hadn’t quite settled. Therefore, the riders rigged up and waited, and by 13:00 the wind had shifted to a solid side-offshore direction with sets reaching up to two metres high. At 13:20, the competition was underway—and every heat counted toward crucial World Championship points.

Girl’s U21

First on the water were the U21 Girl’s. Straight out of the gate, the riders launched into forward loops and clean wave rides. After two intense rounds, it was Bobbi-Lynn De Jong (Starboard / NeilPryde) from Bonaire who came out on top, ahead of Germany’s Trine Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) and Helena Lale (Severne Windsurfing).

Boy's U15

Next up were the Boy’s U15, where the competition was extremely tight with positions changing hands almost constantly. Italy’s Liam Calo (Severne Windsurfing) currently leads after winning the opening final, before securing a solid second place in the second final. Meanwhile, Mika Henning (Duotone Windsurfing) currently occupies second place after winning the second final, while fellow German Anton Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) completes the top three.

Boy’s U18

With wind and swell building, the U18 Boy’s took to the water. The heats were packed with action—from gear mishaps to massive aerials. In a surprise victory, Denmark’s Emil Skov Nielsen (Duotone Windsurfing) took the win and now leads the overall standings. He was followed by fellow Dane Bjørn Olesen (Severne Windsurfing), Germany’s Peter Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing), and Poland’s Adam Kelar.

Boy’s U21

The final heats of the day saw the U21 Boy’s hit the water, where every move could be pivotal in deciding the 2025 World Champion title. With nerves running high and only minutes to perform, precision was key. Valters Videnieks (Goya Windsurfing) found the right waves and executed the best moves to take the win in the first final over his friend and rival, Anton Richter (JP / NeilPryde), and the Latvian currently leads. Hannes Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) and Arthur Kahrs (JP / GA Sails), both from Germany, currently complete the top four.

A tough moment followed for the local crowd came as Klitmøller’s own Tobias Bjørnaa (Duotone Windsurfing) was forced to withdraw due to injury. The young local is expected to be sidelined for the rest of the year, ending his 2025 World Championship campaign prematurely.

Looking Ahead: Day 4 - Tuesday’s competition moves to Middles in Hanstholm, with the skippers’ meeting scheduled for 12:00pm. Forecasts predict strong winds—possibly gale force—and solid swell. All signs point to decisive heats and final results, so it’s safe to say the tension is building.
