2009 PWA Ulsan World Cup

Day 1: The slalom fleet register for battle at Jinha Beach.

Competition’s opening day kicked off with the registration of both the men and women’s slalom fleets. In total, the men’s fleet saw 42 competitors register, which included a healthy contingent of local Japanese and Korean sailors.

The women’s fleet had 10 sailors register for the ensuing six days of race action, which also included a strong force of local talent.

Following registration, race one had been scheduled to begin at 2.00pm, however the weather refused to play ball. Rain, overcast skies and dead calm waters meant competition had to be placed on standby for the duration of the afternoon, until the race committee officially called off day one at 4.30pm.

This evening will see the official opening of the event, which will commemorate the third anniversary of the PWA Ulsan World Cup with a selection of speeches, set to a traditional backdrop of Korean food and music.

The outlook for the competition looks very promising, with ample wind forecast for the days ahead. Kicking day two off, the skippers meeting is scheduled for 9.00am, with a first possible start to racing at 9.30am.
