The Freestyle Queen

Aruba pays tribute to its queen of freestyle

From humble roots growing up on the Dutch Antilles of Aruba, Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / Vandal) has become the driving force behind new-school women’s freestyle.

Signs of a revolution began in 2006 when Offringa was nominated and subsequently awarded the PWA’s prestigious ‘rookie of the year’ title, an accolade which has become synonymous with PWA grandeur.

At just 19 years old, Offringa has won 3 successive PWA World Freestyle Titles, being the youngest ever competitor to hold a World Title in women’s freestyle. Perhaps more impressively, Offringa can proudly boast to having not lost a single freestyle heat in the last two years.

In tribute to Offringa’s outstanding achievements, the government of Aruba have produced a video to honour their national hero, and the empowering face of women’s freestyle windsurfing.
