SPRING IN SOMA

Spring sessions in Soma Bay with Valentin Böckler

Valentin Böckler (Starboard / Gun Sails / Maui Ultra Fins) recently visited Egypt for a spot of freestyle training. The German decided to visit Soma Bay, as opposed to the usual freestyle haunt of Dahab and was rewarded with fantastic conditions - perfect flat water, sunshine and that all important ingredient, wind.

The twenty-two year old made his debut in 2011 and competed in one event last year - Austria - where he finished joint 33rd. Böckler will now be hoping that his latest training mission pays dividends as he continues to train for the first event of the year, which takes place in just over a months time in Bonaire.

In his latest video Böckler combines a nice combination of older school sliding moves with today’s latest explosive power moves. Here’s what Böckler had to say about the conditions.

“I was happy to spent a few weeks there and was able to improve my skills a bit. I even windsurfed in the traditional clothes, the jellabiya.”.
