Europe and Beyond

Representing Bonaire abroad - Maxime Van Gent and Amado Vrieswijk prepare for their summer adventure

Amado Vrieswijk (JP / Severne) and Maxime Van Gent (Fanatic / North / Maui Ultra Fins) are just about ready to begin the start of their new adventure, which will see them representing Bonaire abroad. Rather than travelling to and fro Bonaire between each individual event the duo will be based mostly in Europe during the summer months before also attending the season finale in New Caledonia.

More about their new exciting adventure

Their Plan:

This year we are up for something utterly cool and very different. Instead of crossing the Atlantic several times as in previous years to attend all the key windsurfing events, thus paying expensive tickets and excess fees for our equipment and only seeing airports, event hotels and beaches - we have now chosen to invest in a mobile home, allowing us to tour and explore all the windy and exciting destinations in Europe.

Why is this such a unique experience for us?

We were born and raised on Bonaire - an island in the southern Caribbean with 19,000 habitants. Our lovely island is big (or small…) depending how you look at it and only has 3 roundabouts, with no highways or traffic lights. An island where goats, donkeys and rivers cross the street, everybody knows each other and below the surface you’ll find the most amazing marine life. Boanire, an Island where 5 out of the world’s top 10 freestylers reside and train on the best windsurfing spot in the world; Lac Bay/Sorobon Beach. Warm and shallow with the most vivid colours you can imagine, it it the perfect playground for windsurfers of all levels.

On the contrary, Europe is huge and for us unknown, full of rules, it’s colder and so different. We plan to travel with our mobile home around 7,500km in total and besides the gigantic road trip we will also fly in and out of the Canaries and Turkey. No family nearby to spoil us with daily cooked meals, clean clothes and a decent bed for 6 months. In one word… SICK!

We both cannot wait until June 4th. The day when our adventure starts.

What can you expect from us?

We want to entertain you all as readers, fans and followers. Letting you know about our day-to-day experiences over the next 6 months. It well be awesome, funny and very interesting. E`veryday we’ll see and explore something new and we are willing to share our summer with you.

Amado gives a quick update:

“We are almost ready to go. Maxime flew yesterday evening to vist 2 days her family in Holland and I will join her this Saturday. Packing the mobile home and off to Costa Brava. We are looking forward to a summer full of adventures and action during the events.”

Maxime excited for a new adventure:

"Amado had bought a camper, so thats how we start thinking off doing a trip together through Europe. I was very thrilled to come along and windsurf all places in Europe just a dream come true:). We will go to all PWA freestyle and slalom events and the EFPT."

"After Costa brava we will go along to coastline back to Germany and make a stop in Marseille for a freestyle event and in Garda Lake Italy for a event for kids to show our support. We are also planning to go to Denmark and see there how the sea will be:) bet it is gonna be freezing cold brrrr. For the rest we will see what comes along and where the wind will take us:)."
