Gran Canaria PWA World Cup

With the wind continuing to blow for the fourth consecutive day of the Gran Canaria Wind & Waves Festival a fun competition was held - which saw five teams of four (1 men’s pro, 1 women’s pro and 1 or 2 junior sailors) competing in the Tag Team Pozo Relay Battle.

Each member, of each team were given 7 minutes to produce their best wave ride and best two jumps with the team accumulating the highest scores being crowned the winner.

Victor Fernandez (Fanatic / North / MFC) produced the standout performance out of all the sailors as the Spaniard landed a perfectly executed double forward, whilst also scoring a perfect ten on the wave as he combined a frontside air and several other powerful turns right to the inside. However, his efforts weren’t enough to earn his team victory.

In the end victory deservedly went to Team 5 consisting of Leon Jamaer (JP / NeilPryde), Iballa Moreno (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) and Marc Pare (99NoveNove / Simmer / Maui Ultra Fins) - who sailed twice. Jamaer landed a double forward, whilst Iballa rotated through a clean tabletop forward and Pare an ankle dry backloop. 

Team 2 consisting of Robby Swift (JP / NeilPryde / Mystic / Maui Ultra Fins / SWOX), Steffi Wahl (Patrik / Sailloft Hamburg) and Loick Lesauvage (Goya Windsurfing) were the next closest team, whilst Ricardo Campello (Patrik / Point-7 / MFC), Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Mystic / Maui Ultra Fins) and Tim Van Dam Sanchidrian (Starboard) of Team 2 completed the podium.

The forecast promises further wind tomorrow so the youth fleet will have a skippers’ meeting at 10:30am tomorrow morning - with a first possible start of 11am - with a view to running either another dingle elimination or a jumping contest.
