Gran Canaria PWA World Cup
Day five of the Gran Canaria Wind & Waves Festival saw the youth’s hit the water again for a jumping contest and they provided another spectacular show with the excellent morning conditions on offer. The Pozo wind machine continued with 35-40 knots whistling into the bay, whilst there were plenty of jump ramps on offer with the tide on the push - allowing the youth’s to show their full repertoire of stunts.
Two, twenty minute qualifying heats were held with the top three sailors from each heat advancing into the final. In the end Loick Lesauvage (Goya Windsurfing), Marc Paré (99NoveNove / Simmer / Maui Ultra Fins) and Marino Gil advanced from heat 1, whilst Alexandre Grand-Guillot (Fanatic / North), Noah Vocker Roche (Fanatic / North / Maui Ultra Fins) and Juliann Salmonn also secured their places in the final.
Marc Paré was disappointed with his third place in the Youth’s dingle elimination, but he can be delighted with his performance today and the seventeen year old was given his just rewards with first place. On the way to the top of the podium Paré landed a double forward and a one-handed pushloop. Alexandre Grand-Guillot claimed second place with a perfectly executed backloop and a huge stalled forward, whilst the podium was completed by Loick Lesauvage, who pulled off a bolt upright tweaked pushloop. Marino Gil also looks to be a real talent to watch out for in the future with the twelve year old already landing tabletop forwards and fully planing forwards.
Tomorrow will see the sailors registering for the RedBull Super Session between 10-10:30am before the trials begin at 11am - if conditions allow. The semifinals and final will then be held on Saturday. The forecast looks windy again tomorrow with the northeasterly trade winds continuing, although the prediction is for a slightly lighter breeze.
