Day 7: Philip Köster and Daida Moreno reassert their dominance with victory in Super Session

The 2015 Gran Canaria Wind & Waves Festival was concluded in fitting fashion as the world’s best sailors produced another polished display in the RedBull Super Session - in Memory of the late and great Peter Volwater. There was no stopping either Philip Köster (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) or Daida Moreno (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) again as they reasserted their dominance in Pozo with another victory to back up their success in the main draw.

Men’s

Six of the best jumpers in the world lined up in the men’s final, but there was only ever going to be one winner with Philip Köster at his imperious best. Despite the relatively flat conditions the twenty-one year old was still able to land a trademark ankle-dry double forward, before amazing everyone with a double forward on the way in as well. The Pozo locals dominated the remaining places on the podium with Josep Pons (Simmer), claiming second thanks to an excellent double forward, whilst Alessio Stillrich (Fanatic / North) finished in third place with a super stylish one-handed tweaked pushloop.

Women’s

Daida Moreno proved again today that she is the best jumper in women’s windsurfing. The multiple-time world champion landed tabletop forwards and backloops, but then took things to another level by sailing away from a double forward to be crowned the deserved champion. Reigning world champion - Iballa Moreno (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) - took home second place with a high tabletop forward, whilst Justyna Sniady (Simmer) completed the podium after rotating through a clean backloop.

The Mini Köster Cup

The under 14s were the first group of sailors to hit the water today and it was twelve year old Marino Gil, who claimed top honours with a clean forward loop, whilst also coming extremely close to landing a massive tabletop forward. Gil has caught the eye over the course of the last week and looks an exciting prospect for the future.
